What is ICC T20 World Cup?

CC T20 World Cup is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket, organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The event has normally been held every two years, starting from 2016.

The game is inspired by encouraging thousands of fans who who were put off by the longer versions of the game can access fast-paced and exciting cricket. All full members of the ICC automatically qualify for the tournament, while the remaining spots are filled through a T20 World Cup Qualifier for other ICC members.

The T20 format of cricket, with its energetic cheerleaders, loud music, and fast-paced entertainment, is credited with reviving the sport in the 21st century. Although players initially had doubts about the new format, they eventually mastered the skills required for T20, which included improved fielding, throwing, and fitness. However, traditional cricket enthusiasts were concerned that the ICC T20 World Cup would inevitably threaten the future of Test cricket, which is widely regarded as the purest and most complex form of the game.

Five breakout stars of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

Marufa Akter – Bangladesh

Marufa, who was one of the stars of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in January, has proven that she is capable of making a similar impact at the senior level with a series of excellent performances. She was one of the quickest bowlers on display, constantly posing a threat to the opposition’s wickets during the early Powerplay overs, and added a spark to Bangladesh’s attack up-front.

Muneeba Ali – Pakistan

Muneeba Ali, a bespectacled batter from Pakistan, has gained a lot of international experience in the T20 format. However, she truly proved to be a top-level player during this tournament with her magnificent century against Ireland. Muneeba’s exceptional talent is now evident, and it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for her as such a skilled batter.

Karishma Ramharack – West Indies

Karishma Ramharack has proven her outstanding performances for West Indies Women by contributing to the cricket team the Most Valuable Team of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. Ramharack has been consistently improving and was one of the top performers for West Indies throughout the tournament.

Harshitha Samarawickrama – Sri Lanka

It is worth mentioning that Samarawickrama, the ace of Sri Lanka, was a foundation of the team whenever her team needed her in what was, at the time a massive match with powerful opponents.

Orla Prendergast – Ireland

Another name that has shaken the T20 World Cup 2023 is Orla Prendergast, a 20-year-old all-rounder with boundless athleticism and talent. She has represented Ireland at U15 and U17 level and her proudest moment was scoring a century for Ireland U17 against Scotland.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Qualification Pathway

The journey to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Bangladesh 2024 has commenced. In the first quarter of 2024, ten teams will participate in a Global Qualifier to secure a place in women’s cricket’s biggest T20 event, which is scheduled for September and October.

In the Global Qualifier, ten teams will compete for two spots in the T20 World Cup. These teams include eight teams from the five regions, as well as Ireland and Sri Lanka, who participated in the last ICC Women’s T20 World Cup held in South Africa. Ireland and Sri Lanka failed to gain automatic qualification for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup by not being among the top six teams in that edition.

The top six teams from the T20 World Cup in South Africa, namely Australia, South Africa, England, India, New Zealand, and the West Indies, earned direct qualification. Bangladesh qualified as hosts, and Pakistan qualified by virtue of their position in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings.
